Jaiminitechniques

Jaimini reads a chart by signs and by movable significators. Your karakas, karakamsha, arudha padas, sign aspects and chara dasha, worked out from the birth chart.

Places are found with GeoNames data through our server. Only the place you type is sent, never your date or time.

02How it worksCalculated

The chara karakas (movable significators) rank the planets by how far each has travelled through its sign. The planet furthest along is the Atmakaraka, the significator of the self, and the rest follow: Amatyakaraka, Bhratrikaraka, Matrikaraka, Putrakaraka, Gnatikaraka and Darakaraka. Some teachers also include Rahu, counted backward, and add a Pitrikaraka; that is the eight-karaka option.

The karakamsha is the sign the Atmakaraka occupies in the Navamsa. An arudha pada is the image of a house in the world: count from the house to its lord, then the same number again from the lord. If that lands in the house itself or the seventh from it, the tenth from it is taken.

Jaimini aspects work between signs, not planets: movable signs aspect fixed ones except the neighbour, fixed aspect movable except the neighbour, and dual signs aspect each other. The chara dasha is a period system whose periods are signs. Here it follows K. N. Rao: it runs forward from Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius, and backward from the others; a sign’s years are the signs counted to its lord less one, and twelve if the lord is at home.

Schools differ on several of these points, including whether Scorpio and Aquarius also have Ketu and Rahu as lords. This page uses one lord for each sign (Mars and Saturn) and says so, so you can compare with your own teacher’s method.
