Western astrology
The Westernbirth chart
The tropical zodiac, where the signs follow the seasons. Your Sun, Moon and rising sign, the planets in their houses, and the aspects between them.
02How it worksCalculated
The tropical zodiac starts at the March equinox, so 0° Aries is where the Sun stands at the start of spring in the northern hemisphere. The sidereal zodiac used in India is anchored to the stars instead, which is why your Western Sun sign and your Vedic Sun sign often differ.
Positions of the ten bodies come from a standard astronomy library, run on your device. The rising sign is the sign on the eastern horizon at the minute you were born, so it needs your time and place.
There is no single way to cut the sky into twelve houses. Whole sign gives each sign one house. Equal houses are 30° from the rising degree. Porphyry splits each quarter into three. Placidus divides the time each point takes to travel from the horizon to the top of the sky, and cannot be used inside the polar circles.
03What the signs mean hereAttributed
The line under each sign is what the Western tradition associates with it, put in plain words. It describes a style, not a fate, and astrologers vary on every detail. Nothing on this page predicts anything.
